Walnut Creek, NC

Resin floors for Walnut Creek homes.

The concrete around Walnut Creek is no different from anywhere else in the county. What differs is how long it has been left open to whatever lands on it.

We are based in Goldsboro, so Walnut Creek is a short haul with the trailer. Walnut Creek is in Wayne County, and we cover the towns around it too, including Goldsboro, Dudley, Mount Olive, Pikeville.

The difference between a coating that lasts nine years and one that peels in nine months is almost never the resin. It is what happened to the concrete before the resin went down.

Cracks get filled before color goes down, never after. The diamond grind takes the slab down to clean concrete, every hairline it exposes gets chased and filled, and only then does the resin go on. Then the resin goes down and the topcoat goes over it. Same order on every floor we do.

Local conditions

What eastern North Carolina does to a slab.

Picking the right coating for a coastal plain slab starts with how wet the slab is. Color comes later. Concrete poured on sandy soil without a vapor barrier keeps drawing water up from a water table that rises and falls, and it never really stops. A coating that cannot breathe holds that vapor against the slab until it lifts, which is how floors end up bubbled or peeling off in sheets.

So we test before we quote rather than after. If the slab is wet we say so and price the system that can handle it, and if it is bad enough that no coating belongs on it we will tell you that too. It is a shorter conversation than the one that happens a year after a floor fails.

Heat speeds resin up. The cure is a chemical reaction, and the warmer the slab and the air, the faster it runs, which cuts into the time we have to work the material. In an uninsulated Walnut Creek garage that shows most in the summer months, and most of all on metallic pours. We set the schedule with that in mind.

What people ask for

Which rooms we end up in.

There is usually a stain next to the driver’s door. That spot, where the car has dripped for years, is one of the most common reasons we end up in a garage, because nothing poured on it ever gets it out. Garages are the bulk of our work, and two-car bays come up almost every week.

Plenty of people who call about a garage end up asking about the kitchen. Countertops are the other side of the business: resin goes over your current counters, so your Walnut Creek kitchen looks brand new while the cabinets and plumbing stay exactly where they are. You can read how we pour countertops before you call.

Timing a pour around the weather.

If you want a spring or fall date, call early. Those mild months give resin the widest working window, so they fill up first every year. The rest of the year still works. Summer pours just get scheduled for the early part of the day, and winter pours go ahead once the slab is warm enough.

What moves the price.

Two things move the number: square footage and what shape the slab is in. A clean, sound slab is the cheap version. A slab with a failed coating on it, deep oil saturation, or cracks that have to be chased and filled costs more because the prep takes longer, and prep is most of the labor.

So we come look at the floor in person. You get a firm number on the day of the visit, and it does not creep up once the grinders are running. If you would rather check the range first, photos of the slab are enough for a rough yes or no.

How the two days run.

Expect noise on the first day. We unload the grinders and the dust extraction, take the whole slab down to bare concrete, then go back over the cracks and pits the grind opened up and fill them. That prep is the heavy, dusty part and it eats most of the hours. The coating goes down on the second day, base pour and then the topcoat.

The one thing we will push back on is driving onto the floor too soon. It can take foot traffic the morning after, but a vehicle needs day three or four, depending on the warmth, or it leaves marks in a finish that is still curing. On the first morning we also need the room cleared, because the whole slab gets ground.

Why us

Who actually pours it.

Beto Ponce does the pours himself. The person who quotes your floor is the person standing on it with a squeegee.

Insured and bonded, 5 years of pours, and a phone the owner answers. See the gallery, read about the rest of Wayne County, or send photos of the slab.

The same person who answers the phone drives the trailer out, so the question of whether we come to you is easy to settle. Walnut Creek is well within the 10 counties we cover from Goldsboro. If you are a few miles beyond town, call before you assume we will not come. Town limits rarely line up with the real drive.

FAQ

Questions from Walnut Creek customers

Can you coat a floor that already has something on it?

Usually. Old paint, failed sealer, and most previous coatings come off in the grind. If there is a moisture problem underneath we will tell you before we quote it, not after.

Is it slippery when wet?

Only if it is left smooth. Grit broadcast into the topcoat gives it traction, and we use it on garage floors, patios and pool decks where water is a given. A smooth topcoat is about as slick as polished concrete when wet.

How much does a floor cost?

It depends on square footage, the shape the slab is in, and which system you want. We quote off the actual floor, not a phone guess. Call (919) 440-1333 and we will come look.

Do you work in cold weather?

Most winter days, yes. It comes down to the temperature of the slab itself, because a cold slab slows the reaction that cures the resin. When it is too cold for a good finish, we push the date back rather than risk the floor.

How long will it last?

A properly prepped residential floor is a ten to fifteen year surface. The ones that fail early almost always failed at prep, not at the resin.
