Flake is the workhorse. Vinyl chip broadcast into the base coat and locked under a clear topcoat, it hides tire marks and dust and gives you grip when the floor is wet. Most garages around Nash County end up here once people have seen both options in person.
Metallic is the showpiece. Pigment moves while the resin cures, so the pattern is decided in the twenty minutes the floor is still workable and no two come out the same. This is coastal plain country. Sandy soil, a water table that moves with the season, and eight months a year of real humidity. Slabs poured on that ground shift a little, and the hairline cracking that comes with it is normal rather than alarming. What matters is catching it during the grind and filling it, instead of coating straight over it and watching it telegraph through the finish six months later.
The bigger issue is vapor. A lot of the housing stock around Nash County went down without a vapor barrier under the slab, because for years that was normal practice. Those floors push moisture upward every day, and a coating that cannot breathe traps it and lifts. We test before quoting. If a slab is too wet for the system you want, we will say so and price something that can handle it.
How a job in Nash County runs.
Everything comes out on a trailer: grinders, dust extraction, mixing gear and material. Day one is prep, which is the loud and dusty half. Day two is the pour. You can walk on it the next morning and put a vehicle back on it in three to four days depending on temperature.
The garage needs to be completely empty the morning we start, because we have to grind the whole slab. That is the one piece of the job that falls on you, and it is worth doing the weekend before rather than the morning of.

No. Plenty of people grind and seal and stop there, especially on a shop floor or a slab they like the look of. Grinding is a service on its own, not only a step toward a coating.
