Archer Lodge, NC

Resin floors for Archer Lodge homes.

Archer Lodge calls usually start the same way: the slab is dusting, there is a stain that will not come up, and somebody is tired of looking at it.

We run out to Archer Lodge from the shop in Goldsboro, about 30 minutes out. Archer Lodge is in Johnston County, and we cover the towns around it too, including Smithfield, Selma, Princeton, Pine Level.

Most garage floors in Archer Lodge were poured, troweled, and never touched again. That slab has been soaking up whatever landed on it ever since.

Cracks get filled before color goes down, never after. The diamond grind takes the slab down to clean concrete, every hairline it exposes gets chased and filled, and only then does the resin go on. Then the resin goes down and the topcoat goes over it. Same order on every floor we do.

Local conditions

Why slabs around here fail early.

Most of the failures we get called out to look at were not caused by the resin. They were caused by what the slab was doing before anyone coated it. Sandy subgrade shifts with the seasons, hairline cracks open, and a coating laid straight over them telegraphs every one of those lines back to the surface within a year.

The fix is unglamorous. Cracks get chased out into a V and filled with a rigid repair resin, pits get patched and re-ground flat, and control joints get treated so they can still move without splitting the finish above them. None of that photographs well and all of it is why a floor is still holding in ten years.

A metallic floor poured in a hot Archer Lodge garage does not give you the same working time as one poured in cool weather. Resin cures by chemical reaction, and heat speeds it up. We check the slab temperature and plan the pour around it.

What people ask for

Which rooms we end up in.

A finished garage tends to get people thinking about the rest of the house. The laundry room is a common next call. So are sunrooms and basement steps, anywhere a hard, cleanable floor makes sense.

Countertops are the other side of the business. The resin pours over the counters that are already there, so a kitchen in Archer Lodge changes completely without a tear-out, without new cabinets, and without a week of plywood while a slab gets templated. See how countertop pours work.

Timing a pour around the weather.

The busy stretch runs from about March through June and then again in September and October. If you want a specific week, calling a month out is the difference between getting it and waiting.

What moves the price.

Price tracks the prep, not the resin. The material cost between a simple flake floor and a showpiece metallic pour is real but modest; the hours in the grind and the repair are what change the total.

Surprises in the middle of a job are what people dread, so we do the looking up front. We test the slab and hand you a number that same day, and that number holds after the work starts. A few photos and the square footage are enough for us to tell you if you are in the right range.

How the two days run.

Expect noise on the first day. We unload the grinders and the dust extraction, take the whole slab down to bare concrete, then go back over the cracks and pits the grind opened up and fill them. That prep is the heavy, dusty part and it eats most of the hours. The coating goes down on the second day, base pour and then the topcoat.

Everything has to come off the floor before we get there, shelving and all. The grinder covers the whole slab edge to edge, so an empty room on the first morning is the one thing we ask for. After the topcoat you can walk on it the next day. Driving on it waits until day three or four.

Why us

Who actually pours it.

Every floor Alpha Resin puts down gets poured by the owner. There is no crew that shows up instead of the person you talked to.

Insured and bonded, 5 years of pours, and a phone the owner answers. See the gallery, read about the rest of Johnston County, or send photos of the slab.

Coverage questions are a quick phone call. Archer Lodge is inside our area, which runs across 10 counties out of Goldsboro and about 60 miles in any direction. Addresses out on the edge are usually fine too, since a town or county boundary does not tell you much about the actual drive. Ask before you count yourself out.

FAQ

Questions from Archer Lodge customers

How much dust does it make?

Some, but a lot less than most people picture. The dust extractor runs right at the grinder and pulls the dust in as it is made. You will not walk into a cloud.

How long does a garage floor take?

Two days on site for a standard two-car garage, with the first one spent grinding and the second coating. Count on walking in the next morning and parking again in three to four days once it cures.

Do I have to empty the garage?

Yes, completely. We need the whole slab open to grind it. Plan on the garage being empty the morning we start and staying empty until the floor takes weight.

Will it peel like the kit I bought at the store?

Store kits fail because they go over sealed concrete with no mechanical prep. We grind the slab open first, which is what lets the resin key into the concrete instead of sitting on top of it.

Can you coat a floor that already has something on it?

Usually. Old paint, failed sealer, and most previous coatings come off in the grind. If there is a moisture problem underneath we will tell you before we quote it, not after.
